Hoops Hurdles and Walls

I have been jumping through hoops, over hurdles and climbing over walls for over a month as I try to get both my LTD and Disability Retirement approved. Just accepting and coming to the conclusion that taking these steps were what was best for me has been tough enough. I'm quite sure each additional step is not helping me.

I am tough though and I will persevere. Not just through…

Who Will I Now Become

Today I received the last piece of a puzzle that will allow me to submit a Disability Retirement request from my employer. It is a letter from my Neurologist that will also allow me to submit a request for Long Term Disability. I am relieved yet scared. Reading the letter brought me to tears.…

Just Diagnosed w/TBI this month, after almost 2 years

After almost 2 years of hell; not understanding what was happening with me, my friends and family not understanding what I am going through and totally unable to describe to Dr.s, Specialists, hospitals, etc. I have finally found (on my own) what is wrong with me. God knows, I told or they already knew what happened to me; however, I was still diagnosed with everything but what I actually have. Took every pill you could imagine for depression, seizures (never had one…

Do You Know Your DEF's?

In Kindergarten, we are taught our ABC’s. These letters signify the beginning of the alphabet, the beginning of learning our words and language. Has anyone ever asked you if you knew your “DEF’s?” You know what D-E-F stands for, right? I mean, these are the letters which are the beginning to identify a way to reach our goals and dreams. Never head of them? Well, let me… Continue

i love poetry

but it's hard to write, esp. when it's an assignment type. i feel pressured to write even though my mind is drawing a blank. ay de mi! already so close to bedtime and i haven't really accomplished anything. thoughts swirling through my head, so elusive and hard to catch....

so, i'm going to work on it, and by the time it's needed i'll probably have something good enough, hopefully more than one poem.

and maybe the pressure will force my Muse out of hiding.

I love my support group and I feel safer not driving at nite.…

What happened to me in 1978

One June afternoon, 32 years ago (1978) in Somis, California I had decided to ride my horse. Now I only had a bareback blanket and a hackamore for a bridal. And truthfully, I was not the best…

Geesh, I think that I know it must be me but people seem to...well, let me rephrase, my mother is...I think that I, that it, must be driving her completely mad, like insane!

I again think that I know it's me, why doesn't she talk me me?

OK, so back up I think. I am halfway to 29 and she is a month to 56. And she is really awesome, like no doubt one of the cooler mom's ever but this brain injury that I have has…

I'm really not sure if anyone will "take my side" on this one, but that's totally alright! duhh

Being 22, standing (not wheeling about in a chair) in front of an individual of really whatever age,
I am usually considered well, a perfectly happy and healthy 22 year old - I LOOK FINE, SO I'M JUST FINE.

Which I am honestly perfectly alright with. Like really! (i hatehatehate even the consideration of receiving pity, so i can ensure you that the situation is never caused by any kind of "spotlight on a platform" song and…

Marijuana and the Brain

My husband has been a pot smoker all of his adult life and, since his motorcycle accident in June, he received his medical marijuana card. It was almost the first thing he asked for when he 'came to his senses'. I have been doing some research and found articles on a study that was done on rat brains and it said that marijuana actually promoted growth of 'new' brain cells. I also have heard of new studies being done with alzheimer patients and marijuana has shown to be helping them also. The… Continue

Defining Myself

Working is something I have always done. In fact, I think I have always let my "job", define me. I think we all do. I'm not sure that this is healthy though. If something ever happens to your job, what, then defines you?

There are unemployed people all over America who have been facing this dilemma for quite sometime now. I feel for them.

I've now decided that I, and only I, will define myself.

I am not a…
