Hi Tony,

I am not a TBI survivor, but I have freinds who are and my father had severe brain injury from oxygen deprivation and lived in a persistant vegetative state for 4 years before he died.  When I meet anyone who is aware of themselves I think that they are fortunate. I am actually a professional in the mental health field but I work for a government department and do not use this site to look for new clients. I think that your instinct to "fight" is pretty healthy - as long as you pick your battles carefully. I think that the classic Serenity prayer applies to TBIs;

"serenity to accept the things we cannot change, courage to change the things we can and the wisdom to know the difference".  It turns out that most of us would like to have a "do-over" - change the past, but that's one of those things we just have to accept.  There is so much good news these days about the brain's ability to heal so much more than we realized - there is a lot of hope, but like so many things in life - it does require some work and making changes. I hope you have a peer support group where you are.  In any case welcome to this site and Happy Birthday tomorrow!
